After David Bowie's Death, 'Blackstar' Album Tops Charts With Debut! Video Released!

David Bowie's album Blackstar debuts at No. 1 after his death

Just two days after news of David Bowie's death shocked the whole world, the legendary musician's album entitled, "Blackstar" debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

According to Nielsen Music and as reported in Billboard.com, the late musician's latest album earned 181,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. alone. This was during the week of the his death.

"Of that sum, 174,000 were in pure album sales -- Bowie's biggest sales week for an album since Nielsen began electronically tracking point-of-sale music purchases in 1991," the website reported.

In addition, David Bowie's compilation album entitled "Best of Bowie" released in 2002 reportedly returned to the Billboard chart, securing a sport at No. 4 with 51,000 in pure album sales, gaining by 6,609 percent. Fans are now saying that his death was certainly well commemorated.

"With Blackstar and Best of Bowie at Nos. 1 and 4, respectively, Bowie is one of the handful of acts to manage the feat of having two albums in the top four of the chart at the same time," the website read, adding that the last act to do so was British crooner, Adele.

Meanwhile, as of today, the music legend's "Blackstar" music video has reached 18.5 million hits on Youtube, gaining about 6 million views on the week of the singer's passing. 

As reported to the public, On Jan. 10, David died of cancer. An outpouring of love and messages of grief were visible after the news broke out, with celebrities posting their condolences to the singer-songwriter's family on different social media platforms.

"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer," read a statement on the artist's official Facebook page. "While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."

Moreso, his family also released an official statement.

"The family of David Bowie is currently making arrangements for a private ceremony celebrating the memory of their beloved husband, father and friend," the statement posted on the musician's Facebook page read.

 "They ask once again that their privacy be respected at this most sensitive of times," it added. "We are overwhelmed by and grateful for the love and support shown throughout the world."
