The Australian Open 2016 has officially started, with schedules being released for fans and sports enthusiasts' perusal.
The event is set to feature the world's top players, Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams. Moreso, grand slam king Rogerer Federer as well as Australians Nick Kyrgios and Samantha Stosur who will be headlining for the tournament's first day in Melbourne, will also be present. This according to a report by The Sydney Morning Herald.
Two-time champion Petra Kvitova opens center-court proceedings versus Luksika Kumkhum of Thailand then Williams will try to defend her title in the second match against Camila Giorgi of Italy which will be held in Rod Laver Arena.
Djokovic, the current men's title holder, is taking on Korean teenage Hyeon Chun, setting his eyes on a record equaling sixth crown at Melbourne Park. After that, they are going to make way for Federer and Stosur to battle it out in the two main night matches.
According to SB Nation, "big four" (Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Djokovic) will still exist, but Djokovic has been a cut above the fellow three and there is a possibility that he is going to be in line for Australian Open 2016, which is considered to be his most dominant season to date, with schedules being looked up by fans everywhere.
In addition, fans are saying that it is very likely that Federer and Djokovic are going to meet in the semifinals this year. Djokovic was the champ at the Australian Open last year as well as in Wimbledon and the US Open, but didn't get too lucky with the French Open.
On the other hand, Federer will play against Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia while Stosur is going to face Czech Kristyna Pliskova.
