The latest speculations claim that the release date for season 3 of "Tokyo Ghoul" has been confirmed by FUNimation.

There were many rumors concerning the anime's next season release date, but recently the air was cleared when Movie Pilot reported that the action adventure series is under development as claimed by the president of FUNimation, Gen Fukunaga.

Fukunaga recently revealed the latest update on the release date for the season 3 of "Tokyo Ghoul" series during the video game release based on the anime, Gamasutra reported.

"With season 2 now finished and season 3 set for 2016, the anticipation for the game has only grown higher," said Fukunaga, as reported by Christian Today.

Earlier, there were speculations that "Tokyo Ghoul" will undergo a reboot of the original anime instead of a new season.

However, Youth Health Magazine reported that the new season update has disappointed the anime fans. The recent updates on season 3 have created a fuss in the online community and thus paved the way for a petition to release a reboot for the anime series.

"We have a manga that is on par with 'Death Note' when it comes to its complexity and psychological theme and Studio Pierrot butchered the plot and also ruined the characters with their development," read the reboot petition, as reported by Crossmap.

Furthermore, the reports from Inquisitr claimed that fans are trying to get around 10,000 signatures to request for a reboot of "Tokyo Ghoul" instead of season 3.

Additionally, some rumors from Reddit users suggested that the new season will feature the death of its protagonists, Hide and Kaneki. The spoilers for the new season also tease to showcase Haise Sasaki with excellent fighting skills.

It is also speculated that season 3 of the anime will be based on the "Tokyo Ghoul: Re" manga story arc.

While "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is confirmed to arrive this year, its exact release date has yet to be announced.
