'Sesame Street' Premiere Date Is Set; Initial Reviews From Critics Released; How Did It Go?
The children's show titled "Sesame Street," is now in its new home, HBO, as reported by The Verge. Moreso, the premiere date has been announced for Jan. 16, Saturday.
As fans can recall, the kids' TV show has already announced that its next five seasons would air on HBO after staying on PBS for more than four decades.
"Sesame Street," after four long decades and still running, is going to start their 46th season of making kids "smarter, stronger, kinder" at its new HBO address, according to Daily News. And clearly a renovation underwent. The said deal with the program will initially last for five seasons and it will provide the program with "critical funding" - as how the producers would call it. The said "funding" will make the show more accessible on the network and other related platforms such as HBO GO and HBO on Demand. In addition, the show will be available in both English and Spanish.
Producers have also teased that if you are going to watch "Sesame Street" on HBO on its premiere date, expect for changes that will reflect the current flood of children's programming together with the new ways of viewing habits that have been changing generations ago.
As to the critics' thoughts in the change, one post from The New York Times written by James Poniewozik, pointed out that the changes won't be making much difference.
"In truth, the new HBO arrangement may make little difference to today's children, who engage with franchises less through first-run TV than through games, clips and old episodes replayed - and replayed and replayed - on computers and mobile devices," Poniewozik wrote. "At heart, this latest version isn't vastly different from the Elmo-dominated, younger-child-focused "Sesame Street" of the past several years."
"Sesame Street" has its premiere date on HBO on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 9 a.m. EST with two new half-hours. The episode will be shown simultaneously on HBO Latino.
