Russell Wilson defended Ciara after the songstress sang the national anthem at the College Football Playoff national championship. According to a report from E! Online, the Seattle Seahawks star released a statement on Twitter after his girlfriend got mixed reviews from her appearance at the said event.

The championship game between the Clemson Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide in Glendale, Arizona took place last Monday. The "I Bet" singer got criticized on social media because of her sheer cleavage-bearing gown, which some people said looked like a costume from "Game of Thrones."

The Grammy-winning artist was also blasted by people who did not like her rendition of the national anthem.

However, the boyfriend of Ciara, Russell Wilson, stood by her side amid all the mixed reviews.

"I see you baby!" the NFL player tweeted. "[You] sounded amazing and looked flawless in every way!"

Prior to the collegiate event, the singer was also defended by her boyfriend after football fanatics blamed her for the star quarterback's mediocre performance in the last couple of months.

New York Post reported that even football insiders, such as ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Rotoworld senior football editor Evan Silva, have been pointing out how Russell Wilson has become "too celebrity" because of his relationship with the R&B diva.

"[Chris Mortensen] said there is some concern at [the] Seahawks [head quarters] that Russell Wilson 'changed his approach' this year and is becoming more of a 'celebrity [quarterback],'" Evan Silva tweeted November of last year.

Doug Hendrickson agent of fellow Seattle Seahawks player Marshawn Lynch, even directly dissed Russell Wilson during a match against the Arizona Cardinals.

"@DangeRussWilson pull you head out of your...," the distraught sports agent tweeted.

In a report from Seattle PI, Russell Wilson said his relationship with Ciara has not distracted him from football. "People want to make it into something else, but for me I love the game of football," he said. "I love coming to work. I love getting here early and leaving late. That's what it's about. Nothing's changed. We just need to find ways to win."
