The light novel based anime series "Full Metal Panic!" season 4 is rumored to feature a dark storyline along with the military missions of Sousuke and the mercenary group, Mithril.

According to Anime News Network, "Full Metal Panic!" season 4 is rumored to be released this year by the Japanese publisher, Fujimi Shobo, reported.

The publication recently confirmed during the "Fantasia Bunko Big Thanksgiving 2015" event that the season 4 for the anime series is on its way in 2016.

Moreover, Crunchy Roll reported that Fujimi Shobo's Dragon Magazine had earlier hinted the possibility for a new season of the anime series in its September 2014 issue.

Though details of the storyline are yet to be uncovered, rumors claim that the upcoming season will be based on the manga "Full Metal Panic! Sigma" based on the final light novel, "Always, Stand By Me." The new season 4 of the anime series is also speculated to portray a dark story arc.

Additionally, some spoilers also suggest that the season 4 of "Full Metal Panic!" will feature a fierce combat between the Mithril group and the terrorist organization, Amalgam.

It is also rumored that the upcoming season will reveal the identity of the antagonist who tried to harm Kaname, Realty Today reported.

Further, the speculations also suggest that Sousuke will fight somebody from the terrorist organization, who is close to him and shares a past connection with him.

Lastly, it is also rumored that Kaname and Sousuke will convey what they feel for each other in the new season 4 of "Full Metal Panic!"

My Anime List reported that the anime series is centered on the military organization, Mithril, which thrives to eradicate terrorism in the world. Sousuke Sagara, a sergeant working for Mithril, is assigned a task to act as the guardian of the Whispered candidate, Kaname Chidori.

The light novels are written by Shoji Gatoh and illustrated by Shiki Douji. The earlier season adaptation was a direct sequel to the anime series based on the 4th novel "End of Day by Day."
