Narcos cast talks El Chapo arrest and more about drug trafficking

"Narcos" season 2 release date won't come any time soon, which means fans will have to wait a little longer for the Nextflix TV show.

But some viewers have their ways of getting their daily "Narcos" fix.

With the arrest of Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, fans feel like they are still watching the Pablo Escobar-based show.

But it is not just fans eagerly waiting for "Narcos" season 2 release date who are seeing parallels between Escobar and El Chapo. Even the show's cast members admit that there are similarities between the two.

Wagner Moura, who plays Escobar, revealed that he thinks El Chapo's arrest story is crazy but he also said that it is proof that the war against drugs still has a long way to go.

"It's so crazy, I didn't expect to see Sean Penn, it was such a crazy story," the Brazilian actor told Extra TV at red carpet event of Golden Globes where he was nominated as Best Actor for "Narcos."

"El Chapo is in prison again, I think this is a good thing, I think a show like 'Narcos,' which is a show about the birth of the narco trafficking... It's proof, the war, the drug war is a big flop."

Another "Narcos" cast member, Boyd Holbrook, shared that what is currently going down in the drug trafficking world is a resonance of the last days of Escobar, who just like El Chapo, managed to escape prison at least once.

"It's just the resonance of all what happened with Pablo's days and the outcome of his coming down and Mexico is Mexico," he said.

For Pedro Pascal, who plays DEA agent Javier Pena, he almost can't believe the news.

"Almost stranger than fiction, as soon as you see something you can't believe is true, we have the proof in archival footage, these last 24 hours are proof of that as well in terms of everything that is happening with El Chapo."

El Chapo, the leader of Sinaloa drug cartel, was captured a couple of days ago. The arrest came six months after he escaped from the maximum security prison Federal Social Readaptation Center No. 1.

His arrest became an even hotter topic after it was revealed that Sean Penn had a meeting with him to discuss a biopic movie about his life.

"Narcos" season 2 release date is yet to be determined as Deadline reported that showrunner Adam Fierro has already left the show.
