Rupert Murdoch And Jerry Hall Now Engaged; Close Friend Release Statement!
British newspaper The Times had it on their classified section that media mogul Rupert Murdoch is going to marry actress and former supermodel Jerry Hall, according to abc.net. It is also added that the couple got engaged after dating for four months.
The engagement happened over the weekend in Los Angeles as both showbiz royalties were attending the Golden Globe Awards.
84-year-old Murdoch, the executive chairman of News corporation which owns The Times, made an announcement about the coming nuptials in the Births, Marriages and Deaths section of the mentioned newspaper. "Mr Rupert Murdoch, father of Prudence, Elisabeth, Lachlan, James, Grace and Chloe Murdoch, and Miss Jerry Hall, mother of Elizabeth, James, Georgia and Gabriel Jagger, are delighted to announce their engagement," it read.
The couple started seeing each other after they got introduced by one of Murdoch's sisters and niece. Prior to their engagement announcement, they also made their relationship public in October during the Rugby World Cup final in London. Between the couple, they already have 10 children from their previous marriages and even went on holiday with a number of their kids on a yacht after Christmas in the Caribbean. "They have loved these past months together, are thrilled to be getting married and excited about their future," a spokesman of the Murdoch family said.
"It's all very new. They are really enjoying each other's company very much," according to a damily friend of the Murdochs who told the Daily Mail on Sunday.
"He is very fond of her. There is no question that they are a couple," another friend of the family elaborated.
Engagement to Jerry Hall is Rupert Murdoch's first since his very public split from ex-wife Wendi Deng, who is a Chinese businesswoman and personality. It has been reported that Deng was walking past the late David Bowie's apartment on Monday in New York.
