'Green Lantern' Movie Cast: Chris Pine Reveals He Was Never Approached The DC Role

Last year in June, reports surfaced that "Star Trek" actor Chris Pine might get a role in one of DC's upcoming films. There was a bit of initial confusion over which character he might be portraying as some reports claimed that he was to play as the male lead in "Wonder Woman," while other reports indicated that he was being considered to headline the "Green Lantern" movie. Now, the actor has come forward and revealed that he was never really in the running to play Hal Jordan.

"No," Pine said in an interview with Collider. "I was not offered Green Lantern ever, I've never had a conversation about Green Lantern."

So, the big question is -- who will be playing Green Lantern in DC's Extended Universe?

"Green Lantern's" casting has long been the subject of rumors. Rapper-turned-actor Common was rumored to play John Stewart, but like Pine, was cast in another DC film. He's set to play the Tattooed Man in David Ayer's "Suicide Squad."

"Fast & Furious" franchise star Tyrese Gibson, who has expressed his interest in playing John Stewart, was revealed to have met with Warner regarding a role in the fil. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.

"I've already had a couple of meetings at Warner Bros., so we'll see what happens," Gibson said in a statement published by Comic Book in July last year.

For those unfamiliar, there are three core Green Lantern characters: Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner.

Hal Jordan is a test pilot who was chosen by Green Lantern Corps member Abin Sur whose ship crashed on Earth. Fatally injured from the crash, Abin Sur sought for an individual worthy of his power ring, someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear." The ring ends up with Jordan and with it its powers.

It turns out that Jordan wasn't the only one worthy of the ring - two more candidates were selected: Guy Gardner and John Stewart.

While he missed out on leading one of DC's tentpole films, Chris Pine is still set to play the male lead/love interest in "Wonder Woman," which is currently being filmed by Patty Jenkins.

Chris Pine will be present as a cast member in "Wonder Woman" on June 23, 2017, followed by "Justice League Part I" on Nov. 17 the same year. The "Green Lantern" movie arrives on June 19, 2020.
