Manchester United Partners with South Korean Footwear Brand Sbenu
Sbenu - a South Korean footwear brand - became the official casual footwear partner of the Manchester United Football Club. The two parties confirmed the agreement on Thursday.
The deal gives the South Korean footwear brand "exclusive rights to produce and market footwear displaying the Manchester United crest and colours, tapping into the club's growing Asian fan base," according to an article posted Friday on The Drum.
The South Korean footwear brand is known among South Koreans since it was established in 2013. As of this year, the company has 100 retail stores in the country and has become one of the major sponsors for Korea's ESports.
"Sbenu is a popular brand in Korea and we look forward to seeing the Manchester United crest on their products," Manchester United's Group Managing Director Richard Arnold said.
Kantar revealed that the Manchester United have around 15 million South Korean followers and with that, the Manchester United hopes that the partnership will be a good move to reach out to its South Korean fans.
"Having recently opened its 100th store and soon to be opening its 100th franchise we are confident these products will be attractive to our 15 million South Korean fans," Arnold added.
"Sbenu has quickly gained market reputation and become a household name in South Korea for its continued commitment to product and marketing innovation," Sbenu's CEO Hwang Hyo Jin said.
"Through our partnership with Manchester United, the world's biggest football club, we look forward to delivering innovative co-marketing initiatives to the fans to ensure Sbenu stays at the forefront of their mind as South Korea's leading shoe brand."
Meanwhile, Manchester United is considered as "one of the most popular and successful sports teams in the world," Business Wire noted on Thursday. The professional football has garnered a total of 62 trophies after it was founded in 1878. Manchester United currently plays in the Premier League.
