EA and Respawn Entertainment announced that they will be globally releasing Apex Legends Mobile for Android and iOS on May 17th.  EA confirmed it was working on the game back in early 2020, and with the recent announcement, Legends will finally get to slide down the slopes of Kings Canyon on handhelds.

Beta testers have already been able to experience the game ahead of time and reports say the experience feels similar to its PC and console gameplay. The game has been optimized for play on mobile platforms and has included touch-optimized controls for tablets and phones.

Apex Legends is a free fast-paced battle royale where players can take charge of Legends, characters with unique abilities to help players control the tide of the battlefield. Teams can drop with up to three per squad and the existing legends and classic maps that players are familiar with will also transition to mobile.

The central game is already on season 13 and so a new battle pass with special rewards is active with several new cosmetics, emotes, gun charms, and more. A new defense-focused Legend, Newcastle, has also dropped into the arena. Mobile-specific features such as new modes and social links will be available for future handheld players.

Live service games daily bonuses and challenges are a central part of EA's business. The company revealed the category accounts for a massive portion of its revenue, at over $4.998 billion over the last year, according to a recent earnings report. Correspondingly, Activision Blizzard in February said in a report that Call of Duty Mobile accounted for more than $1 billion in revenue for 2021.

In preparation for the game's release, the team offers pre-registration awards based on how many people sign up in advance. Users can avail of this now by putting their info down for its Android drop or on its iOS release. More information about compatible devices can be found on EA's FAQ page.
