Waze has added the nostalgic vibes of the '70s, '80s, and '90s to its map app. With Retro Mode, users can now choose new "moods". For example, clicking the "Pumped" boom box Mood turns you into a retro boom box on the map. Your on-screen navigation vehicle shift into a Rad Racer sports car and the voice of an '80s aerobics instructor starts up to pump you up along the ride.

Retro Mode is intended to celebrate "personalities and trends from the years most firmly cemented in today's pop culture" according to Waze's blog. Your next drive becomes a customized trip down memory lane with various iconic moods, voices, and cars available.

In the '70s Mood, an eccentric radio DJ becomes your fellow host and navigator as you cruise in your flower-power "El Vanarino". An adorable groovy lava lamp becomes your avatar to match. Meanwhile, a pop star helps you avoid both paparazzi and traffic during the 90s, and will verbally award you an autograph when you arrive at your destination.

The eras can also be blended with each other. Selecting the "Dialed up" mood of the 90s turns you into a satisfied-looking old-school pc and your car into a yellow convertible. But this time, you can choose to keep the 80s aerobics instructor or 70s radio DJ as your guide, just in case you've hit off a personal friendship with either during your last trip.

After all, each voice has its own affirming line when you reach the end of your drive. The '80s aerobics instructor goes, "Let's work out again tomorrow!" and the '70s DJ philosophically departs with "I can't join you from here, but life's about the journey anyway."

Waze also partnered with audio streaming service TuneIn to bring the nostalgic '70s, '80s, and '90s songs into the ride, completing the whole vibe for the car cruise. To activate the features, tap on My Waze in the app, and tap the banner titled "Drive with the '80s." The Moods are available for a limited time and come in English, French, and Portuguese.
