Steam Deck, the latest portable gaming computer released by Valve, gets several keyboard improvements and connection fixes in recent updates posted yesterday and several hours ago.

Most notably, they added dual trackpad typing support to the onscreen keyboard. By doing so you now get two visible cursors on your screen whenever you are typing, making searches and general text input much smoother.

Keyboard input is now sent on trackpad click down, instead of up, which should improve accuracy for fast trackpad typists. Additionally, the default keyboard theme "pressed" key state should be more noticeable for better accessibility.

Configuration-wise, they've added a couple of calibration and advanced settings screen options. The deadzones for the left and right joysticks can now be adjusted, as well as the haptic strength for both right and left trackpads. Tuning up the haptic feedback might be more convenient for players who rely on vibrational cues when playing.

Joysticks and other sensors on external gamepads can also be calibrated for users that prefer running the Steam Deck with other consoles such as when plugging it into a monitor and then hooking up your own controllers.

Family Sharing status has also been added the to game details page. Borrowers will see whose library they are borrowing from, and lenders will see a message if their library is currently in use by a borrower. This can be useful for family members who are sharing games while keeping their accounts separate.

Some extra patch notes include: updated network connection flow to connect without re-prompting for a known password, improved performance downloading library images after logging in (leading to less stuttering), and pressing R2/Enter no longer dismisses the keyboard in Desktop mode

The two latest updates also reveal minor fixes such as onscreen keyboard input issues when connecting to public WiFi and an issue with Chrome not installing from the non-Steam section of the Library.
