Hacker Group ‘Anonymous’ Declares Cyberwar With Russia

Anonymous strengthens hacking offense after declaring war on Russia. Meanwhile, Russia is not as aggressive in cyber attacks as expected. 

An international hacker group "Anonymous" declared a cyberwar against Russia, which is currently attacking Ukraine. 

"No nation deserves to be invaded at the whim of a madman's delusions.  No person deserves to live under censorship where they cannot speak truth to power.

As activists, we will always fight for the oppressed! We are #Anonymous  #OpRussia" Anonymous tweeted.

On the other hand, Russia, whose main specialty is hybrid warfare, which originally attacked both military and non-military domains, was strangely quiet. 

An account related to Anonymous posted on Twitter, "The Anonymous group is officially engaged in a cyberwar against the Russian government." The cyberattacks are not aimed at Russian citizens, but rather focus solely on the actions of the Russian government and Russian President Vladimir Putin in relation to the invasion of Ukraine.

In fact, since the declaration, Anonymous has been claiming to be behind a series of cyberattacks targeting the Russian government and related organizations. 

Anonymous also revealed that he had hacked the database of the Ministry of Defense of Russia. However, the Russian Defense Ministry denied the hacking, saying it was fake news. Anonymous also claims to have carried out distributed denial of service attacks against Russian government websites and state media. 

In contrast, Russia's cyberattacks on Ukraine have been relatively quiet, as expected. Ukraine's defense ministry and major banks were subjected to DDoS attacks prior to the invasion, which the Ukrainian government blamed for Russia.

Cloudflare, an American technology company that protects companies from DDoS attacks, described last week's attacks as "relatively modest."

Meanwhile, Ukraine was attacked last week with a new malware called HermeticWiper that prevented computers from rebooting. However, the scale of the attack was only a few hundred.
