One Direction announced its hiatus in August 2015 after member Zayn Malik left the band. Prior to their long hiatus, the remaining four members Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson released a final album. Since then, each of the One Direction members has gone to pursue their solo careers.

In a 2017 Interview with Rolling Stone, One Direction member Harry Styles shared why his bandmates agreed to take a hiatus. He said that each of the members thought about the group and did not want to exhaust their fanbase. Additionally, Styles have also been open to the idea of having a reunion with his bandmates in the future saying that it is a possibility that can't be ruled out.

This July 2021, One Direction will be celebrating its 11th anniversary. Would this be the perfect time for a reunion? Well, Directioners are not the only ones who are wishing for a One Direction reunion project.

In an interview, British music executive and X Factor judge Simon Cowell strongly believes that a One Direction reunion is of great possibility and even claimed that he can convince them himself.

"If I could get into a room with them and just say, 'You know what, whether it's six months or something, I think you'd have such a great time' - maybe I could persuade them. But I think they should do it, definitely. I would love it to happen. And the fans, of course, would love it," music mogul Simon Cowell expressed.

It has been 6 years since One Direction's indefinite break as a group from the music scene. The group's last project was their world tour and their fifth album "Made in the A.M." Each member now has their solo career.
