The Mnet Asian Music Awards 2020 (2020 MAMA) came under fire because singers were not treated the same as the actors.

CJ ENM held the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards ceremony last December 6 without a physical audience. Questions regarding the treatment of the artist at the event began to spread online the following day.

Waiting rooms for actors only?

It appeared that there is a difference between what the production provided behind the scenes for the actor who were presenting the awards than the idols who performed and received awards. On December 8, a news source released a report which describes the actors who took part in the ceremony as the presenters of the awards.

Also, only two idols teams received waiting rooms, and the others waited in an outdoor parking lot. Restrooms for the artists are said to have access to the portable toilets outside, and some idols rented other accommodation nearby than waiting in their respective cars.

Singers finding a solution

Most singers have bad backs, and they are having a hard time sitting for a long time in the car. Moreover, the actors ate from the provided catering outside their waiting rooms while the idols ate food in their cars. From another source, CJ told them that they could use the cafeteria in the building.

However, some decided that it would be better to eat in the car. They found out that there had been a catering inside the building because they saw some photos uploaded by the actors. Lastly, the production grouped the singers and presenters separately because the singers already pre-recorded their performances.

They did not have to rehearse at the venue or rehearse their acceptance speech. On the contrary, it was different for presenters because they have not visited the venue, so they needed to rehearse. With the presenters, there were fewer people, and they were able to follow the regulations.
