Poop Can Determine On How A Person Can Loose Weight
People nowadays are becoming more health conscious. Thus, many are opting to try different diets. However, some seem to not work, and a new study suggests that you may not work alone as your diet depends on your gut.
In the study, which has been published in the Journal of Obesity, suggests that people are not alone in losing weight. It actually depends on the gut of a specific person. It will either help or not help a person in losing weight.
As many would know, the intestines are teeming with bacteria. It forms the cities in your gut collectively called the microbiome. Thus, the Danish researchers found that the type of bacteria in the microbiome may affect how much weight a person may lose from a particular diet, according to Forbes.
As follows, the experts from the University of Copenhagen, Technical University of Denmark, the Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen and measured and calculated the ratio of two bacteria, Prevotella and Bacteroides. These bacteria came from the poop of 62 people who were overweight.
The researchers then randomly assigned the study volunteers to receive for 26 weeks either the ad libitum New Nordic Diet or NND. It is high in fiber and whole grains or they will take an Average Danish Diet (ADD)
As a result, the participants with a high Prevotella to Bacteroides ratio who took the high fiber or NND diet lost an average 3.15 kilograms or 6.94 pounds more body fat compared to those on the average Danish diet. By contrast, both of the diets did not result in any of the significant difference among those with the low Prevotella to Bacteroides ratios. To explain the result further, if the gut has different bacteria, it has a different response to the diet.
Meanwhile, the study does not necessarily prove that the bacteria in the intestines can help people predict how it will respond to a particular diet. It is further evidence that diet, metabolism, and weight loss form a much more complicated system than many previously realized.
