ARMY Cast Record Breaking 20 Million Votes For BTS In 18 Hours; Breaks Billboard Music Awards Servers Due To Volume
Not only is K-pop superstar idol group BTS breaking records left and right, but it appears that the group is breaking the Billboard Music Awards servers as well. BTS, nominated for the Top Social Artist category on this year's BMAs, has caused an influx of votes for the category and caused some servers to shut down.
According to a tweet by Billboard Music Awards, the votes cast by members of ARMY, BTS' official fandom proved to be too much for their servers to handle. Fans immediately responded that they were doing all they can for the K-pop group to win.
It can be recalled that ARMY started strong when the voting opened, showing their force by trending the BTS hashtag for the category worldwide with 8 million votes. Justin Bieber's Beliebers also trended their artist's hashtag with 400,000 votes, Korea Portal reported.
On the same day Billboard Music Awards, through its twitter account confirmed that some of their servers have shut down due to the influx of votes. "BTS have BROKEN some of the BBMAs servers. You all go hard for the boys," it posted.
In an updated post, Billboard Music Awards announced that BTS ARMY has collectively cast 20 million votes for the BMA Top Social Artist category. The clincher is that the number was only gathered in a span of 18 hours and voting is far from over.
It was earlier reported that no less than Billboard Music Awards president Mike Mahan personally confirmed that they have sent out the invitation for BTS to attend the awards ceremony on May 21st. It is expected that the boys will be attending the BMAs as Big Hit Entertainment CEO Bang Shi Hyuk earlier said that they would be more than glad for the boys to be part of the event if they would be invited, Soompi reported.
