THAAD Defence System Arrives In South Korea To Counter The Treat From The North
The tension in the Korean peninsula is getting high these past days. In the recent news, the six US trailers carrying Terminal High Altitude Area Defence missiles or THAAD arrives at the golf course location in South Korea.
However, this THAAD arrival on the deployment site in South Korea sparked between locals and police. The Seoul and Washington are deploying the Terminal High Altitude Area Defence missiles battery to counter the threat from North Korea, which is pushing ahead with its ballistic missile program despite multiple sets of UN sanctions, The Channel News Asia reports says.
This THAAD system is meant to intercept and destroy any short and medium-range ballistic missiles during the final phase of flight. The two latter cities both agreed to early deployment of the missile defence system after talks earlier this month between the South's acting president and visiting US Vice President Mike Pence.
Also, the North Korea is believed to be preparing their sixth nuclear weapon test. China, on the other hand, is strongly opposed the deployment of the THAAD system, which it fears will undermine its own military capabilities. As the Time report cited, the work to set up the THAAD system, within this year has angered not only North Korea and China, but also the Russia, which see the system's powerful radars as a security threat.
The United State of America President Donald Trump has indicated he is willing to ramp up US military pressure on the North Korea while simultaneously encouraging the China to use its influence on its ally, and reject bilateral diplomacy with Pyongyang.
The Beijing City has resisted the US offer, concerned that a regime collapse could trigger a lot of refugees across the Korean border and leave the US military on its doorstep. Although, it has become increasingly concerned as tensions rises in the related region, with warning of the possible sixth nuclear test by the North.
