Tokyo Ghoul Season 3

The "Tokyo Ghoul" live action movie is set to release on July 29 but fans are still waiting on the release date of  "Tokyo Ghoul" Season 3." Over the weekend, the first trailer for the live action adaptation was released but it seems that the movie will set on a different path from the second season of the anime. What does it mean for "Tokyo Ghoul" Season 3?

It can be recalled that while the first season of "Tokyo Ghoul" was well received by fans, the second season was widely criticized because it strayed too far away from the source material. Based on the 30-second trailer for Tokyo Ghoul live action movie, director Kentarô Hagiwara seems to be closely following the successful formula of the manga and the first season, Polygon reported.

The "Tokyo Ghoul" live action trailer showed a glimpse of main character Ken Kaneki, a high school student, who after getting attacked by a ghoul must learn how to reconcile his humanity with being a hybrid ghoul himself. Early fan reactions were hopeful about the movie but many also expressed reservation about live action adaptations since recent offerings have taken great liberty with the source material.

It can be recalled that at the end of the second season of "Tokyo Ghoul" anime, Ken Kaneki was killed off. Fan theories have speculated that the character did not really die and will resurface in "Tokyo Ghoul" Season 3 in the guise of Haise Sasaki, an investigator affiliated with the elite Quinx Squad.

Meanwhile, some reports are suggesting that the delay in the release of "Tokyo Ghoul" Season 3 may actually be attributed to the development of "Tokyo Ghoul" live action movie. Based on an earlier report by Korea Portal, resources may be limited for the development of the anime series and the creative team involved in the anime may actually be the same one being used by "Tokyo Ghoul" live action movie to maintain uniformity in the franchise. If so, fans are hoping that the anime will return to form and become more faithful to the events of the original manga.
