‘Goblin’ Star Gong Yoo Is Most Talked About Korean Actor Online, Beats Jo In Sung
It appears that many netizens still have the "Goblin" fever given the continued popularity of its lead stars. Recently, Gong Yoo was identified as the most talked about celebrity among 25 South Korean actors.
Gong's fame further skyrocketed after he starred in the tvN fantasy series "Goblin," also known as "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God." Several weeks after the said drama aired its final episode, the actor remained one of the most discussed South Korean celebrity online.
The "Age of Shadows" star topped the consumer participation index, according to data from the research institute rekorea.net, as cited by Korea Herald. For the period of Jan. 16 until Feb. 17, the actor and other Gong related topics reigned over various online communities.
Many netizens mentioned the actor's name several times where keywords associated with Gong included the terms "like" and "smile." Given the "Goblin" star's popularity, the Hallyu celebrity reached a consumer participation rate of over 2.6 million.
Gong has been in the limelight since 2016 after starring in the zombie apocalyptic film "Train to Busan." Rekorea.net's Director Gu Chang Hwan also highlighted the fans' increased interest in the actor. He stated, "Public attention for Gong Yoo is heating up, as can be seen through the increased consumption of the past films the actor played in."
Meanwhile, Jo In Sung landed at second place with a consumer participation rate of more than 400,000. Given the popularity of the actor's new movie "The King," Jo also became one of the highly-mentioned South Korean stars online.
In other news, Gong has been busy completing various photo shoot and commercial filming engagements. After the successful end of "Goblin," the actor traveled to various countries such as Australia and Dubai to shoot latest ads or commercial clips for several brands.
With Gong's calendar filled with back-to-back appointments until mid-March, he is set to take a quick break before embarking on a new project. The actor's agency Management Soop recently announced that the "Coffee Prince" star might consider taking part in a movie instead of another drama for his next production, Soompi reported.
Gong's tvN drama "Goblin" ended its 16-episode run on Jan. 14 and aired two special episodes on Feb. 3 and Feb. 4.
