Girls Generation group member YoonA will soon return to the South Korean small screens with a historical drama. The Kpop idol will play one of the lead characters in the upcoming MBC series "The King Loves."

YoonA is set to delight avid K-drama fans with her upcoming new series "The King Loves." The MBC drama will mark the Girls Generation singer's first South Korean historical series.

The Kpop idol's previous drama projects were contemporary pieces with genres that ranged from romantic comedy to action melodrama. YoonA's most recent TV series was the tvN production "The K2" where she played the secret daughter of a presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, in the singer-actress' new project "The King Loves," YoonA will portray Eun San, a rich nobleman's daughter known for her beauty and deadly charm. Recently released photo stills, as obtained by Soompi, showed the "Love Rain" star wearing a white hanbok, which is South Korea's traditional attire while trying to sneak outside of a house.

In another photo still, the Kpop idol displayed her competitive and fierce side as she wielded a red-colored weapon in her hands. It appears that YoonA's character is engaged in some form of fighting competition or a weapon training.

"The King Loves," tells the story of the young Goryeo dynasty ruler named Wang Won (ZE: A's Siwan). Described as an ambitious young man, Wang Won will become involved in a love triangle with Eun San and his childhood friend Wang Rin (Hong Jong Hyun).

In an earlier interview with local reporters, YoonA shared her excitement in learning more about her co-star Siwan as they complete filming activities for the upcoming MBC drama, All Kpop quoted the actress saying. The Kpop idol shared, "I think we will be able to get close fast. I heard he's a good person."

"The King Loves," a pre-produced MBC drama, is slated for release sometime 2017.
