5 Dead, 5 Missing In South Korea Due To Typhoon Chaba

Typhoon Chaba left 5 dead and 5 missing people in South Korea after its landfall in the region.

According to the safety ministry, at least five people were killed in the country due to the impact of Typhoon Chaba in the southern region that brought heavy rains and strong winds over the week.

As of 6 a.m. of October 6, five fatalities have been reported with another five people who were missing in the southern part of Ulsan, Busan, and as well as the country's island and resort in Jeju since the typhoon Chaba hit the country according to the Ministry of Public safety and Security.

In the record of missing people, a firefighter who was on a rescue operation in Ulsan, which is about 410 kilometers in the southeast part of Seoul, during the midst of the typhoon, was gone.

The Public Safety and Security ministry said that about 229,000 households in the affected region which was hit by the typhoon, experienced a blackout but the power was almost all restored by Thursday morning.

Moreover, the typhoon destructed crops of about 7,500 hectares of farmland and drowned 508 houses along with thousands of vehicles in the affected areas. Around 198 people from 90 households have been evacuated from their houses due to the great flooding according to the ministry.

All of the domestic sea routes are now back in their normal operations, but the sea routes going to Tsushima and Fukuoka in Japan are still restricted because there are still strong waves in those routes and the authorities want to provide safety measures to the people.

Hwang Kyo-ahn, the prime minister of South Korea, is planning to visit the southeastern city of Ulsan to check the coverage of the damaged sites and as well as to give help to the affected people.

Furthermore, the South Korean government said that it will start gathering reports on the damages on public and private facilities and conduct a detailed restoration plan for the affected areas by the end of this month.
