PlayStation fans might have something to look forward to for the month of September as rumors indicate that Sony might launch a pair of updated models of its entry in the current home console generation, the PlayStation 4.

It was previously reported that Sony will be holding a press conference called the PlayStation Meeting on September 7, for which the company already issued a set of invitations to select members for the press. It was believed that the event will act as a launching point for Sony's long rumored update to its PlayS4ation4 console.

Now, sources for the Wall Street Journal claimed that the Japanese tech giant will actually launch a total of two new consoles at the event. According to the sources who are allegedly close to the details of the event, Sony will indeed introduce to the public its more powerful new PlayStation "Neo" alongside a revamped model of the base PlayStation 4 model.

The PlayStation "Neo" is the long rumored advanced model that Sony has apparently been working on for quite some time now, with rumors about the machine surfacing earlier this year. Many believed the company might announce the machine at June's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

Andrew House, the President and global Group Chief Executive of Sony Interactive Entertainment, confirmed the rumors of the PlayStation "Neo" in the preceding days before E3 2016 but clarified that it would not be present at the event.

The confirmed specifications and capabilities of the PlayStation "Neo" indicate that it will be a much more powerful version of the current PlayStation 4 model, with the "Neo" having the ability to output displays and images at a whopping 4K resolution. Meanwhile, the other less powerful PlayStation 4 model alleged to be launched at the September 7 PlayStation will reportedly be a slimmer version of the current PlayStation model. If the claims are true, then it would mean that the company is still aiming to continue its trend of introducing slimmer versions of its entries in each home console generation.

As for how Sony will support running two versions of its machine at the same time, reports indicate that Sony will devote time and effort to developing essentially two versions of the titles coming to its platform. All games for the PlayStation 4 are set to be developed for both versions, with the option to run the games at higher resolutions for those who have the PlayStation "Neo."

If the above all holds true, then Sony's angle at the current console generation is to provide its consumer base with the ability to choose whichever machine to get for their budgetary and gaming preferences.
