South Korea Gov't to Pick Candidate Relocation Site for Daegu Airport

The South Korean government will pick a candidate relocation site for the southeastern city of Daegu at the end of this year.

In a session of a government task force regarding the relocation project for Daegu Airport, the decision was made.

Daegu Airport is primarily a domestic airport in Daegu city. The airfield was originally developed during the
Japanese Imperial period. In 2013, there's a total of 1,084,585 passengers while in 2015, an estimated total of 2,000,000 passengers used the airport.

The government has been planning to move the airport which is used by civilian and military aircrafts. However, there are complaints and demands from the residents living beside the airport to reduce the aircraft noise, restrictions and other issues.

A study about the best relocation site for the airport will be commissioned by the government after reading the recommendations from the municipality of Daegu.

The airport's relocation project has been placed on the top priorities of South Korean President Park Geun-hye.

Last month, President Park called her government officials to immediately start the move for the relocation project.
