Will Missy Elliott’s New Album Fire Up Music Charts This Year?
Missy Elliott is poised to release a new album that will force people, even her harshest critics, to acknowledge her genius.
The "Get Ur Freak On" star was apparently encouraged by Sean "Diddy" Combs to make a comeback, according to the report from TV3 Ireland.
"I happened to be in the studio one day with Faith Evans and I was working with her and he came over and said, 'Yo money, you still rap? I got this record I want you to hop on.'"
The release of Missy Elliot's new album is still unknown, but there's a very good reason for that.
Elliott talked to Billboard back in November where she said that coming out with a mediocre album might cause the end of her career. One negative comment that goes viral, and the album sales, and the career of an artist, is already in peril.
"Nowadays you say a time, they stone you," she said.
"I have to be very careful," she said. "It's different now. People are quick to be like, 'You're irrelevant, you're a flop, you're washed up.' "
With a $50 million net worth, Missy Elliott can afford not to release another album in her lifetime, but her appearance at the Super Bowl 2015 alongside Katy Perry only whetted fans' appetite for more.
Certainly, the expectations are high considering that the 44-year-old was credited for reinventing R&B and Hip-Hop since he debut in 1997.
Then, her "WTF (Where They From)" track with Pharell Williams late last year showed fans and critics alike that she still got it. It was her first track since 2012 following the release of "9th Inning" and Triple Threat" with Timbaland.
Back then, Missy Elliot was reported to be releasing "Cookbook" LP, but to fans' disappointment, the was no album on the shelves.
Forbes anticipates that the new album by Missy Elliot might be released sooner than later as shown by the release of "WTF," which is believed to be a cut of her new LP.
