Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev On Speaking Terms Again? Exes Reunite In ‘The Vampire Diaries?'

Former couple Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev are reportedly back in good terms, triggering rumors of the 27-year-old actress' return to the "The Vampire Diaries."

According to recent report in Morning Ledger, the former couple bumped into each other at a Golden Globes event.

"Somerhalder and his wife, Nikki Reed, allegedly ran into Dobrev at the Golden Globes after party," it said. "While this might have ignited some hope for fans of the former couple, chances of the two getting back together seem highly unlikely."

Nina Dobrev exited "The Vampire Diaries" last year over rumors of tension on the set between her and ex Ian Somerhalder on account of his engagement, and later marriage, to "Twilight" actress Nikki Reed.

However, Ian Somerhalder was quoted several times that he would welcome Nina Dobrev's return to the series.

"The Vampire Diaries" showrunner Julie Plec also said that Nina Dobrev is always welcome to come back anytime she wants for season 8.

"On an emotional level, it's sad because she's Nina and she was Elena and we all love her and loved that character," she said, per Variety. "Yes, I miss her deeply and would take her back in an instant if she called and said, 'Hey, can I come back and play?'"

The ratings of "The Vampire Diaries" dropped as a result of Nina Dobrev's exit, and its timeslot was transferred to Friday nights fueling rumors of an impending cancellation.

But Plec added that Nina Dobrev's exit from "The Vampire Diaries" offers new challenge for the writers who can now expand the storyline outside of the love triangle between Ian Somerhalder's Damon, Elena and Paul Wesley's Stefan.

 "It just feels good to be able to tell the story about two brothers who are more bonded and, as such, at odds more than ever before, and you're writing this terrific relationship piece now about these two guys, and it's just been so fun to write this year. The writers, we're just enjoying the hell out of it," she said.

Nina Dobrev in various interviews has always maintained that she ended her relationship with Ian Somehalder on good terms and Nikki Reed had nothing to do with their split. But she's not likely to return to "The Vampire Diaries."
