Diablo 4 Season 11 PTR Goes Live October 21 With Game-Changing Loot and Combat Overhauls

Blizzard Entertainment's upcoming Season 11 for Diablo IV represents one of the most ambitious updates since the game's 2023 launch, introducing fundamental changes to itemization, combat mechanics, and endgame progression that will permanently affect both Seasonal and Eternal Realms.
The Public Test Realm opens October 21 at 10:30 a.m. PDT and runs through October 28 at 11 a.m. PDT, exclusively for PC players via Battle.net. The full season launches December 9, 2025.
Four Lesser Evils Invade Sanctuary
Season 11 brings back Diablo's iconic demon lords, each targeting specific endgame activities with unique mechanics.
Azmodan debuts as the first new world boss since launch and can be summoned at three altars south of Zarbinzet. Each altar channels power from different Lesser Evils, adding tactical variety to encounters.
Duriel transforms Helltide with maggot infestations, replacing the Blood Maiden while introducing parasitic creatures and corrupted meteor showers. Belial infiltrates The Pit, spawning illusory Eyes that stun enemies and can replace the final boss entirely if destroyed. Andariel corrupts Kurast Undercity's Spirit Beacons, increasing difficulty while boosting rewards.
Divine Gifts Replace Seasonal Powers
Rather than temporary seasonal abilities, players earn Divine Gifts from the archangel Hadriel by defeating Lesser Evils. Each Gift offers two modes: Purified versions remove penalties and double rewards, while Corrupted versions increase difficulty but maintain bonuses.
Defeating a Lesser Evil for the first time drops Corrupted Essence, which unlocks two associated Divine Gifts when returned to Hadriel. This system replaces previous seasonal power structures with a choice-driven progression model.
Complete Itemization Redesign
The update fundamentally changes how players acquire and upgrade equipment. Tempering now allows direct affix selection from recipes, eliminating randomness. However, items are limited to one tempered affix instead of two, though charges can be restored indefinitely. Non-unique items gain a fourth base affix to compensate.
Masterworking shifts from improving affix values to enhancing item Quality, which boosts base damage, armor, or resistances up to Quality level 20. A new Sanctification system adds legendary powers to items through celestial infusion, available after defeating Lesser Evils in pre-Torment difficulties or via Heavenly Sigils in Torment.
Smarter Enemy AI and Expanded Affixes
Monster behavior receives significant updates addressing criticism of predictable patterns. Each demon type gains clearer combat roles and more intelligent positioning. Over 20 new affixes create tactical scenarios, with elite enemies spawning minions that inherit their modifiers.
Monster pack grouping decreases, preventing players from eliminating multiple groups simultaneously and forcing more strategic target selection during combat.
The Tower and Leaderboard Beta
A new timed endgame challenge called The Tower features randomly generated floors that must be completed within 10 minutes. Successful runs earn spots on returning Leaderboards, split between Hardcore and Normal modes with categories for class, party size, and performance metrics.
Both features launch in Beta for Season 11, with no attached rewards during the testing phase. Full implementation arrives in future updates.
Season Rank Replaces Traditional Progression
The Season Journey transforms into Season Rank, requiring Capstone Dungeon completion before advancing tiers. Unlike previous versions, these dungeons aren't bound to character level or difficulty, allowing attempts at any stage.
Progression rewards include additional Skill points at Ranks 1-3 and Paragon points at Ranks 3-6. Renown becomes permanent only in the Eternal Realm, while Seasonal players earn equivalent benefits through the new rank system.
Permanent Changes for All Players
These modifications affect both Seasonal and Eternal Realms, making them core gameplay updates rather than temporary seasonal features. The comprehensive rework positions Season 11 as a potential "Diablo 4 2.0" ahead of the planned 2026 expansion.
PC players with Battle.net access or Xbox Game Pass can test all changes during the week-long PTR period, with feedback directly influencing the December launch version.
