TREASURE THE STAGE 2026 NEW WAV: LIVE IN JAPAN — A Fan-Service Machine Running Light on New Songs
Twenty seconds into the opening number at K Arena Yokohama on July 18, a single ad-libbed line from member Junkyu - delivered during the show-opening "IF I" - was reportedly enough to bring at least one fan in the crowd to tears before the first chorus even landed. That's the kind of show TREASURE is running through Japan right now: heavy on the small, specific moments built for people who already know every part breakdown, lighter on the new material it's technically there to promote.
"NEW WAV," the mini-album this tour is nominally supporting, came out June 1 and topped both the Oricon and Billboard Japan album charts on release. But by the accounts out of the tour's Osaka opener on July 8-9 - where the show format for this Yokohama run was set - the "new song" stretch functions more as a curtain-raiser than a centerpiece. The bulk of stage time goes to two other things: elaborate solo and unit segments built specifically for the Japanese leg, and a run of localized covers, including member Jeongwoo taking on a Shimizu Shota ballad and group-wide covers of Perfume's "Chocolate Disco" and Orange Range's "Ikenai Taiyo." Those covers are the smartest thing on the bill. They're a direct, low-cost way of telling a Japanese arena crowd the show was built for them, rather than just routed through their city on the way to somewhere else.
Where the show is thinner is anywhere it has to justify "NEW WAV" as more than a pretext. Reports from both Osaka and the first Yokohama night describe a similar shape: title track, momentum, then a hard pivot into unit stages and nostalgia. For a 10-member group four Japan tours into its career, that's a defensible choice - the crowd showed up having already memorized the older catalog, and the show plays to that. It's a harder case to make for an act that's still supposed to be building a new era around a mini-album, rather than treating it as a formality on the way to the parts of the set everyone actually paid for.
One structural strength holds the whole thing together: the solo segments. Member Jeongwoo's spot, singled out independently by two separate fan accounts of the July 18 show as the emotional peak of the night, appears to be doing the job a solo segment is supposed to do - giving a 10-person group's individual members somewhere to actually be heard on their own terms, rather than as one part of a much larger machine.
It has to be said plainly: this review is built from Korean- and Japanese-language press coverage of the Osaka opener, fan accounts from the first Yokohama night, and the tour's official schedule and production notes - not from a seat in the arena. That limits what can be said with confidence about pacing, sound mix, or how the show actually felt in the room on July 20 specifically, tonight's closing Yokohama date. What press and fan accounts do capture consistently - the "IF I" opener, the Jeongwoo solo reaction, the J-pop cover segment - is detailed enough to sketch the show's shape, even without a firsthand account of how any individual night landed.
TREASURE has run this exact format before, across three prior Japan tours going back to 2023, and the audience numbers back up that it works: "Special Moment," the group's most recent cycle, drew 170,000 fans across 24 shows in Asia and North America. Whatever "NEW WAV" is supposed to mean for TREASURE's next era, this tour isn't really where that argument gets made. That's still true on the Kobe dates later this month, and it'll still be true in Los Angeles in August.
