KATSEYE Just Did Something No Girl Group Has Done in 21 Years
KATSEYE's "BEAUTIFUL CHAOS" has spent 53 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200, Billboard confirmed in its chart dated July 11 - the first time in 21 years that a female group's album has stayed on the chart for a full year. The last one to do it was the Pussycat Dolls' "PCD," in 2005.
The six-member group's second EP entered the Billboard 200 at No. 4 on the chart dated July 12, 2025, and has held a spot on the 200-album ranking every week since, currently sitting at No. 128. Along the way, it produced "Gnarly," KATSEYE's first Hot 100 entry, and "Gabriela," which peaked at No. 21 - still the group's highest-charting single. The EP has amassed more than 32 million monthly Spotify listeners, the most of any girl group worldwide.
The milestone arrives in a stretch that's kept KATSEYE visible well past the EP's original release window. In June, the group joined LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT - labelmates across HYBE's roster of girl groups - for a one-off collaboration single, "ICONIC BY MISTAKE," which debuted at No. 38 on the Hot 100, the highest chart position of any K-pop girl group song to enter this year. Earlier this year, KATSEYE also picked up two Grammy nominations, for Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and swept three trophies at the American Music Awards, including New Artist of the Year.
KATSEYE was formed through the 2023 Hybe-Geffen Records competition series "Dream Academy," documented in the Netflix series "Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE" - the same production model HYBE has used to build Korean idol groups, applied directly to a global cast recruited outside Korea. The group's six members are Daniela, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia and Yoonchae, though Manon has been on hiatus from group activities since February for health reasons; her availability for upcoming releases hasn't been confirmed.
KATSEYE is set to release its third EP, "WILD," on Aug. 14. It's unclear whether the new release will feature all six members or the five currently active.
