'Wayward Pines' Season 2 Renewal News: Class One Will Add New Rebel in ‘Wayward Pines’ Season 2
'Wayward Pines' Season 2 Renewal News: A new character will be coming to 'Wayward Pines' in the middle of an impending rebellion in the reign of Class One, according to rumors. Wayward Pines Season 2 will air on FOX in Summer 2016.
According to a statement from Fox, a new character arrives in town and "finds himself in the middle of a serious rebellion, as the residents battle over how to preserve the endangered human race."
'Wayward Pines' was supposed to be a one-time project, but Season One of Wayward Pines ranked as Summer 2015's No. 1 broadcast scripted series among Adults 18-49, averaging a 2.2/8 in the key demo.
Variety reported the show will pick up from the events last seen in season 1.
"'Wayward Pines' was a huge hit for us this past summer," Madden said in a statement. "We were absolutely blown away by the mysterious and surprising world that Night and his team created, and the twisting-and-turning storytelling that drew viewers in from day one."
Wayward Pines starred Matt Dillon alongside Oscar-winning Melissa Leo, Juliette Lewis, and Oscar-nominated actor Terence Howards. At the end of Season 1, the series' main character, Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon), died while sacrificing himself to save the kids of the First Generation. Dillon played Ethan Burke, a U.S. Secret Service agent investigating the mysterious disappearance of two of his fellow agents in Wayward Pines, Idaho. Night Shyamalan said that he was happy with how the show ended.
"Wayward Pines" is based on the trilogy novel "Black Crouch," but many fans of the books thought the show felt a bit too rushed after all three books were crammed into one show. In spite of signs, no not the movie by Shyamalan, of a non-renewal, fans are not giving up hope that the books will be covered.
It's been reported that Chad Hodge, who adapted the bestselling books by Blake Crouch, is not taking part in the production anymore. Mark Friedman will be the new showrunner. M. Night Shyamalan will be executive producer.
