Group Urges Presidential Hopeful Donald Trump To Apologize To Muslim Protester Ejected From Rally
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) called on presidential candidate Donald Trump to apologize to a Muslim protester who was allegedly ejected from a rally in South California on Friday.
CNN reported Sunday that a certain Rose Hamid, a Muslim woman, was escorted by a police officer out of Trump's campaign event after the woman engaged in a silent protest while Trump was delivering his speech.
The 56-year-old protester was wearing a white hijab and a blue statement shirt that says, "Salam, I come in peace."
Trump's supporters booed Hamid, while some even shouted at her to "get out" from the venue.
After the Muslim woman was escorted out of the event, the presidential candidate commented, "There is hatred against us that is unbelievable... It's their hatred, it's not our hatred."
"I get why he's popular: he's an entertainer, he's engaging, there are certainly aspects that appeal to certain parts of society. He even has valid points in some cases," Hamid said in an interview, as noted by Radio New Zealand News Sunday.
"But they have to recognize what they're supporting. His ramping up of his hateful rhetoric is just not what America is, and it's not who we are as a country," she added.
Trump reportedly said last year that he plans to enforce a temporary ban on letting Muslims enter the United States.
Meanwhile, CAIR urged the presidential hopeful to make a public apology to Hamid after being "verbally abused by the crowd" and being "kicked out [from] one of his campaign rallies."
"The image of a Muslim woman being abused and ejected from a political rally sends a chilling message to American Muslims and to all those who value our nation's traditions of religious diversity and civic participation," CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said.
"Donald Trump should issue a public apology to the Muslim woman kicked out of his rally and make a clear statement that American Muslims are welcome as fellow citizens and as participants in the nation's political process."
