Grey's Anatomy Takes Home 2016 People's Choice Awards; Season 12 Star Ellen Pompeo Also Wins
"Grey's Anatomy" proved its stellar power as the series, which is presently on season 12, won Favorite Network TV Drama in the recent 2016 People's Choice Awards. The show's lead star Ellen Pompeo also went home to win Favorite Dramatic TV Actress.
The actress, who plays Meredith Grey in the series, took to Twitter to share her daughter's reaction to the nomination saying, "Mama did you bring me home another crystal?"
The inquiry came from Stella Luna, who is the eldest of her kids. Ellen Pompeo is also mother to Sienna May, who was born in 2014.
Per Enstarz, Ellen Pompeo addressed "Grey's Anatomy" fans during her acceptance speech at the 2016 People's Choice Awards.
"So first of all, that scream when they said "Grey's Anatomy", I'll never forget that," she said. "And your enthusiasm keeps us going and makes us love going to work every day."
"Pompeo credited the success of the show to Shonda Rhimes and said that the show was so popular because its story revolves around understanding, compassion, tolerance and kindness, and added that those are themes that people could use more of," International Business Times noted.
While Ellen Pompeo acknowledged the fans, everything was not rosy between them. According to reports, the actress got offended when the show's supporters doubted whether the series can carry on without Patrick Dempsey's Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd.
The actor's character got killed in season 11 of "Grey's Anatomy."
According to Just Jared, 46-year-old actress Ellen Pompeo was joined during the 2016 People's Choice Awards by her fellow "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 co-stars James Pickens, Jr., Sarah Drew, Camilla Luddington, Jerrika Hinton, Kelly McCreary, Caterina Scorsone,Chandra Wilson and Justin Chambers.
As season 12 continues, "Grey' Anatomy" has added Giacomo Giannotti as part of its regular cast members. A report from TV Line confirmed the news adding that his character, Dr. Andrew DeLuca, will continue to heat up the show.
