Fast & Furious 8 Movie Casting News: Fast & Furious 8 could soon become the first major Hollywood film to shoot in Cuba. Fast & Furious 8 is going through the proper channels so it can receive permission from the U.S. and Cuban governments to "explore shooting a portion" of the sequel on the island nation.
"Universal Pictures is currently in the process seeking approval from the United States and Cuban governments to explore shooting a portion of the next installment of the Fast & Furious series in Cuba," said a statement from the studio.
Universal's "Fast and Furious" franchise plans to shoot part of the eighth film in the "Fast and Furious" series in Cuba will make it the first Hollywood studio film to shoot on the island since the embargo was set in the 1960s.
"Cuba is a land that many know about, but few have seen," John Kavulich, senior policy adviser to the U.S.-Cuba Trade and Economic Council, said.
"These productions are hoping to capitalize on the increased interest in Cuba."
The news comes about a year after the U.S. and Cuba began to normalize diplomatic relations.
Vin Diesel has said will be partially set in "New York, baby!"
F. Gary Gray, who helmed "Straight Outta Compton" will direct the next Fast and Furious film.
"Fast and Furious 8" will be the first movie in the "Fast and Furious" franchise that won't star Paul Walker. Paul Walker was killed in a car accident in 2013.
The remaining cast will reportedly reprise their roles. Vin Diesel, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Jason Statham are all confirmed to return in the next Fast & Furious.
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson will recur his role as Luke Hobbs, Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw, Vin Diesel as Dominic Torreto, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce and Lucas Black will return as Sean Boswell. Mendes will reprise her role as US Customs agent Monica Fuentes, the protagonist in the upcoming "Fast and Furious 8."
