The beloved animated series "Samurai Jack" returns for a darker and more violent season this 2016. "Samurai Jack" ran from 2001 and ended in 2004 after 52 episodes.

"Samurai Jack" creator Genndy Tartakovsky recently said that he is bringing back one of the most beloved animated series he has created. The series will be returning to Adult Swim and the cable network teased fans by releasing a five-second teaser.

Aside from the "Samurai Jack" project, Tartakovsky is also responsible for the "Star Wars: Clone Wars" and "Dexter's Laboratory" series. He also created the "Sym-Bionic Titan" and "Hotel Transylvania" franchise.

Tartakovsky told Cartoon Brew in an interview, "In the last five years, I've traveled quite a bit and internationally, and wherever I go, Samurai Jack is number one. People are so appreciative of and inspired by it; which is really nice. I feel like it is more popular now than it was when it actually aired."

As "Samurai Jack" returns this 2016, Tartakovsky is glad that he was able to keep all the core members of the team responsible for creating the popular series. He added that new members were added into the team that will mold the upcoming season.

The new season of "Samurai Jack" is currently under production at the Los Angeles studio of Cartoon Network. Fans deduce that the decision to move the series to Adult Swim means that it is going towards a darker and more violent nature compared to previous iterations.

"The series followed a warrior from ancient Japan, who studied fighting all over the world in order to stop the supernatural evil of the malevolent wizard Aku," said the Nerdist. "However, Aku flung the stoic hero into the far future, where Aku's evil is law, and he spends his days walking the Earth, having adventures, helping people as he can, and hoping he can return to his own time to stop Aku's evil before it starts."

A total of 52 episodes of "Samurai Jack" was produced in the past, and the last episode aired on Sept. 25, 2004. The first episode aired on Aug. 10, 2001.

Tartakovsky did not confirm the actual release date for when "Samurai Jack" returns this 2016.
