Talks of a "Sons of Anarchy" prequel just refuse to die down.

The buzz could be due to showrunner Kurt Sutter's disclosure in an interview with Deadline that he was indeed seriously considering the prospect of doing a spinoff of the popular crime-drama series.

"At some point I do have plans to hopefully do the prequel, which I do see as a one-off 10- or 12-episode thing..." Sutter said.

The producer explained that the "Sons of Anarchy" prequel will focus on how John Teller and Piney Winston's relationship began, with Vietnam as the show's initial setting.

Sutter said he then plans to bring the two lead characters back to US where they would have to deal with the socio-political dynamics within the country during that turbulent period, and the people's perception of war.

He shared that a possible storyline for the Mayans biker club was hatched during a conversation with FX executive Eric Schrier wherein they discussed the proposed series' target demographics.

"We were talking about the idea of doing things for other markets, like the Spanish-speaking market," Sutter said. "I casually said I'd be open to doing something with the Mayans."

He was however quick to say that he wanted the "Sons of Anarchy" spinoff to stay away from the shadow of its critically-acclaimed predecessor and have its own identity among viewers.

"I would do a contemporary piece, not a prequel, and place it far enough away from Northern California that it wouldn't step on the mythology that's already been told," Sutter said.

It was in an article by Entertainment Weekly that the 55-year-old executive producer first broached the idea of doing a "Sons of Anarchy" prequel but possibly only as a limited series.

Although FX didn't confirm whether the show would be getting a spinoff or not, the concept made perfect sense as the series' season finale managed to pull in 9.2 million viewers, which was the highest for the network.

Sutter will reportedly executive produce the "Sons of Anarchy" prequel, and is now looking for a co-producer that would be in charge of the Mayan club's day-to-day on-set requirements.
