According to a recent article published in The Irish Times, North Korea may be sending its delegation to the 2016 World Economic Forum Meeting, an annual activity that aims to improve the state of the world by means of public-private cooperation, which will be held in Davos, Switzerland later this month.

Yonhap News reported that Foreign Minister Ri Su Yong's confirmed attendance to the meeting will be North Korea's first-time participation after 18 years of non-participation. However, the spokesperson of the World Economic Forum declined to provide any information about the list of attendees before its official release on January 13.

While the reason for sending Foreign Minister Ri to the delegation remains in question, experts said that his presence entails the promotion of North Korea's investment and economic policies to the world.

In Kim Jong Un's New Year's address, he emphasized that one of the top priorities in changing North Korea's policy would be through economic developments and the improving the people's quality of life.

"We should concentrate all our efforts on building an economic giant to bring about a fresh turn in developing the country's economy and improving the people's standard of living," Kim said.

North Korea was slammed and subjected to sanctions from the United States and some other Western countries for establishing a program involving the development of weapons of mass destructions. It was believed that Pyongyang has conducted nuclear testing activities in the previous years as well as long-range missiles and ballistic missiles testing. These activities were done at the facility situated in Punggyeri in the province of North Hamgyong.

Moreover, the country has also been perceived by international organizations, particularly the United Nations General Assembly, as a violator of human rights because of allegedly committing various violations, such as infringing people's right to liberty.
