New Year's Day 2016: Store Hours And Sales On The First Day Of The Year
It surely feels better to have a good time on the first day of the year. After a long night New Year's Eve celebration, people would definitely spend some time off before the holiday ends.
While most families go on outing like beach and out of town getaways, some would love to spend their first day of 2016 shopping since some stores offer big sales on New Year's Day.
Though many would go after shopping, not everyone knows which stores are open since it's considered a federal day and most establishments are closed.
According to Hollywood Life, major stores including Target, Best Buy, Macy's, Big Lots, KMart, Sears and JC Penney and Toys R Us are open during its regular hours on New Year's Day. Moreover, 24-hour stores such as Walgreens, Walmart, CVS and Rite Aid are also open.
Though all Walmart stores are open on New Year's Day, the regular hours for New Year's Eve will be different by location. Most Walmart stores operate between 8 p.m to 10 p.m and will be back to its 24-hour regular schedule on New Year's Day.
Most stores including Staples, Party City, Dollar General, Kmart, Family Sports and Academy Dollar operate at 8 a.m during Christmas and New Year's Eve. However, these establishments and some stores operating 24-hours will be back to its regular schedule on New Year's Day which usually opens at 6 in the morning.
As noted in About Money, stores such as Costco, Sam's Club and Trader Joe's are closed on New Year's Day while some stores including Kohl's, Whole Foods, Best Buy, Forever 21, H&M, Barnes & Noble and Kirkland's are open with its special store hours starting 9 and 10 in the morning.
New Year's Day happens to be the most celebrated holiday in a year and is celebrated every first of January on the modern Gregorian calendar. It is often observed with fireworks, midnight countdown, family gathering, and the tradition of enlisting New Year's resolutions.
