A sea monster was found in Japan recently, according to CNN.

The sea monster that a lot of people are talking about right now is not like what some people are imagining. It is not a fantasy creature, but a real one that has been in the deep ocean for a long time already.

Recently, this rare sea monster has reappeared on a pier in the Toyoma Bay in central Japan. The sea monster was a rare giant squid.

A video of the rare giant squid can be viewed below.

This real-life sea monster was found on Christmas Eve of 2015, according to Popular Science.

The visitors of the pier were just going about their business when the 12-foot-long red-and-white giant squid swam by. Even though it was large, it was speculated to be still young at age. There were specimens of dead giant squids in the past that had lengths that could go up to 43 feet.

The giant squid swam up near the surface, slipped under some boats and even met with a local diver without harming the person before going back to the sea, according to Newser.

"My curiosity was way bigger than fear, so I jumped into the water and go close to it," said diver Akinobu Kimura, who owns a local diving shop nearby. "This squid was not damaged and looked lively, spurting ink and trying to entangle his tentacles around me."

It was Kimura, who guided the giant squid, several hundred yards away from the short and then let it slip away.

The sea monster that was found in a bay in Japan was thought to be young due to its size, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

The Architeuthis Dux could grow over 43 feet long, but the one that was found recently was only 12 feet long. This was also not the first time Japan has encountered this creature of the deep.

Last 2013, a museum team ventured underwater a hundred times in a submarine to film one specimen and they saw one a third of a mile down.
