A View Of The Comcast Center

Comcast recently rolled out a successful test for the very first Docsis 3.1 modem in Philadelphia.

The company has already made it through the technology in using their existing cables to deliver a faster internet service to their customers without replacing it. They offered a gigabit speed which is equivalent to 1,000 megabits or above.

In order to run the gigabit internet connection, fiber lines were needed within the city however, the company figured out a way to skip the longer process of rebuilding everything. The internet service provider only needed to make a minimal modifications within their software to perform the upgrades, according to Tech Insider.

Comcast's Docsis 3.1 modem will allegedly be available in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Northern California and Atlanta. The company will continue to test the functionality of the new device and service within the area, according to BGR.

The company released a statement and said that they are preparing the devices to deliver it out in the market before 2016 ends.  A new gigabit internet speed will be rolled out that will work on their customer's existing home connections and in several locations of the country however, they didn't say much on how it's going to cost.

"The beauty of DOCSIS 3.1 is that it is backwards compatible, so no digging up streets or backyards," according to the company's statement, reported by PC Magazine.

"This technology, when combined with the extensive upgrades we have already completed on our advanced Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial network, will provide more gigabit choices for our customers," the statement continued.

Comcast's Docsis 3.1 modem was first tested out in their employee's homes this 2015 and was first rolled out to Philadelphia as a public announcement of the new service.

The company aims to observe how well the new technology behaves in a real-world environment during its testing phase so that they could improve any modifications needed to meet their customers' needs.
