Amazon Pulls Out Hoverboards For Sale; Units Burst In Flames? Details Released!
Hobbyists and tech-junkies alike caught news of another hoverboard that burst into fire while charging in New Jersey. As such, the numerous counts of fire-related incidents have prompted Amazon to finally pull out and discontinue hoverboards for sale, according to sources.
It was reported that another hoverboard in New Jersey went up in flames while it was being charged that burnt a Lacey home's carpet and left the device charred ruins, according to Mashable.
It was speculated that the alleged hoverboard that was for sale and bought by the family was another "knockoff" and most likely had faulty batteries, courtesy of the source.
"There are a lot of factories in China that now make Li-ion batteries, and the reality is that the quality and consistency of these batteries is typically not as good as what is found in top tier producers such as LG or Samsung," Professor of Materials Science & Engineering at Carnegie Mellon Universtiy Jay Whitacre commented, according to Wired.
In addition, past reports have revealed that at least 16 counts of hoverboard-related fires in 12 states are being observed and investigated by federal agencies, as stated by Who TV.
"We consider this a priority investigation," US Consumer Product Safety Commission Spokeswoman Patty Davis told reporters, courtesy of the source. "This is a popular holiday item and it's going to be in a lot of consumers' homes, and we'd like to quickly get to the bottom of why some hoverboards catch fire," she added.
In another report, a hoverboard that was on sale at Crabtree Valley Mall, caught fire while charging inside the home of the Cary family, according to WRAL.
"My husband was quick to get a fire extinguisher, and he sprayed it, and then it stopped, but then it comes roaring back, and it popped," the mother of the Cary family stated to reporters, courtesy of the source. "It sounds like fireworks-when people say that, they're telling the truth," she added.
As such, the US Department of Transportation on Thursday issued a safety alert regarding hoverboards for sale and being transported as cargo without complying with hazardous materials regulations, courtesy of USA Today.
In more recent news, the Washington-based company, Amazon, has finally decided to cease offering their valued customers hoverboards that are on for sale by the company, Swagway, on their online store, according to i4u.
The decision of Amazon to stop the sale of hoverboards was due to the safety issues related to the device, as stated by NY City News.
