Stuntman Ricardo Cornelius died in a freak accident on the set of "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" in South Africa last Dec. 3, according to IOL, who first reported the incident.

The stuntman died due to injuries sustained when a United States army issue Hummer parked on a platform toppled, crushing him during a safety check. After being unemployed for a year, the 34-year old had only been on set and part of the crew for only five weeks.

"We are all deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic accident, which was out of anyone's control,"  said a Constantin Film spokesperson to Entertainment Weekly. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Constantin Film is a German production company. It also is responsible for the film.

He was rushed to the hospital and was taken to the theater as soon as he arrived. Cornelius' heart stopped but the doctors were able to revive him again, mentioning to his wife that his lungs were flattened and that there was a lot of bleeding, revealed the Telegraph.

Ricardo Cornelius' mother, wife and mother-in-law rushed to be by his side but the stuntman passed away after an hour.

"We already bought his Christmas clothes and shoes," said his widow, Shafiefa Cornelius. "I buried him in his Christmas clothes."

Shafiefa had only been married to Ricardo Cornelius for only nine months and the South African stuntman died a week before their tenth-month wedding anniversary. Local police have opened an investigation.

This tragedy comes a few days after a British stuntwoman revealed that her arm has to be amputated due to an accident on the same set of "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter."

Olivia Jackson, who is 34 years old, suffered serious injuries when she crashed into a metal camera arm while filming a motorcycle scene for the movie, reported the Daily Mail.

After the crash, Jackson suffered a punctured lung, head injuries and a two-week induced comma.

"My facial scarring is horrible and I wish so much I had my old face back," said Jackson. "But then again, I am truly grateful to be alive."

The South-African born stuntwoman worked as a double for Charlize Theron, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Karen Gillan.

The film is based on a video game and it is the sixth installment of the horror action franchise, which stars Milla Jovovich.

"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is slated for release in January 2017.
