Prominent Chicago rapper King Louie got shot on the left side of the head while in his vehicle Wednesday afternoon and is now recovering, according to HipHopDX.

The incident took place at approximately 3:30 p.m. at 3900 block of West 83rd street in the Ashburn neighborhood. The rapper whose real name is Louis Johnson, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in stable condition said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

King Louie's friend, Chance the Rapper took to Twitter to send his friend who got shot, a get-well-soon message.

In 2009, Johnson coined the term "Chiraq," which is a blended word that likens Chicago's gun violence to Iraq.

He also created the term "Drillinois," which plays off the hip-hop genre  "Drill." The 27-year old helped popularize the term along with other Chicago rappers like Lil Reese, G Herbo, Lil Durk and Chief Keef.

"I called it Chiraq, but I wasn't caring about the Chiraq part," told King Louie to the Chicago Sun-Times in 2014. "I was caring about the Drillinois part; I was caring about the drill movement."

Johnson is one of the key figures in Chicago's drill movement. He slipped into the mainstream when he contributed a verse to Kanye West's track "Send It Up,' which is from his "Yeezus" album, revealed Rolling Stone.

Director Spike Lee borrowed the phrase for his film about Chicago, which was recently released. This drew criticism from Chance the Rapper and Johnson. The two released a song Dec. 4 entitled, "F--k Spike Lee." The same day the New York director's film hit theaters.

King Louie posted a photo on Instagram of him recovering well from the gun shot wound and grazes in the hospital. The rapper thanked fans and a Minister Farrakhan for the prayers and support.
