Paternity Test Result Shows Korean Singer-Actor Kim Hyun Joong Is The Father Of Ex-Girlfriend's Three-Month-Old Child
A paternity test result confirmed Korean singer-actor Kim Hyun Joong as the father of a three-month-old baby. Korea Joongang Daily reported Tuesday that Hyun Joong's former girlfriend, surnamed Choi, reportedly gave birth to a baby boy in September and had the baby tested on December 9 at Seoul National University Hospital.
The hospital's Department of Medicine said the paternity test shows an accuracy rate of 99.999 percent that the baby is Hyun Joong's son.
"It is almost certain that the two are father and son biologically," an official from hospital said.
The SS501 former leader reportedly said that he would "take full responsibility for the newborn" if the DNA matches his.
Meanwhile, Kim Hyun Joong's parents called for a press conference on Monday after learning about the paternity test result identifying their son as the father of a newborn baby, as reported by Soompi on the same day.
"When I heard she gave birth, first, I was sorry," the singer's father, Kim Hong Sung, said. "I was sorry because I couldn't see the child even though he is my blood. [The paternity] should have been revealed earlier."
"We said many times, starting from January, that we would take responsibility but the paternity confirmation was delayed. We are relieved that the paternity has been revealed, however late. We are sorry to the child. We are happy he is healthy."
He went on, "Hyun Joong acknowledged that the child was his from the beginning. He always said he would take responsibility. Didn't he say he was sorry to the child in the letter that was revealed in September?"
Choi filed a lawsuit against the Korean singer-actor in 2014 of alleged domestic abuse. However, she later dropped the charges after Kim Hyun Joong issued an apology. On the other hand, Kim has also counter-sued Choi of alleged false accusations, blackmail, fraud lawsuit and defamation.
"We want to reach a solution regarding the child over conversation," Hong Sung added.
"If we don't continue with the lawsuit, Kim Hyun Joong will have to live with the disgrace of being accused of assaulting her for becoming pregnant with his child," said Lee Jae Man, Hyun Joong's attorney.
While a legal representative of Choi stated, "My client and Kim Hyun Joong lived together for about two years and she became pregnant five times during that period," as noted by IB Times Tuesday.
"We have submitted 66 pieces of evidence for the damage lawsuit. Kim Hyun Joong has continuously held unnecessary press conferences and performed media play that made my client out to be a national swindler and blackmailer without any evidence. "
"Kim Hyun Joong will have to show himself responsible for his child and protect the rights of his child and the mother, and apologize for the 'murder' of Ms. Choi's character through commentary in the likes of 'She will have to take responsibility if the child is not mine," he added.
