Rumor had spread around that the renowned Motown legend, Lionel Richie, sued the widely acclaimed singer, Adele, for her recent single, "Hello", according to sources.

The 66-year old singer, Lionel Richie, has previously released a smash hit record with the same title, "Hello", on his 1984 album, "Can't Slow Down".

Meanwhile, the 27-year old superstar, Adele, recently released her own song, which was also called "Hello" this year.

However, Lionel Richie merely joked at trying to sue Adele for coming out with a track of the same name, according to Music-News.

"You can't use my word without my acknowledgement, thank you very much," the musician wittingly said, courtesy of the source.

"I have been trying to figure out, from a legal point of view, can you own a word?" he added.

"So far all the lawyers have told me, 'No'," he further stated. "I've tried... but the association is fabulous!" he further stated.

"Well, I kind of own 'Hello,'" the singer said courtesy of LA Times. "But not to the point where it's any kind of problem."

"I'll loan 'Hello' to Adele," he said.

Yet, despite the false rumor, the former Commodores singer, Lionel, added that the two "will meet", hopefully for a duet at some point, as reported by Yahoo News.

"When she's on tour I'll catch her backstage," he added.

In an interview with ITV's talk show "Lorraine", the Motown legend singer said that Adele has her hand full as she needs to promote the song, courtesy of People.

"She's a songwriter and I'd love to be able to get in a room and just play," he added, courtesy of the source. "Don't put any pressure on her but every time you see her just say, 'Hello Adele, what about Lionel?"

Speculating about the meaning behind Adele's recent hit track, "Hello", she explained what it was actually about to American TV host, Matt Lauer, courtesy of Music-News.

"Hello is just about reconnecting with everyone else and myself," she said according to the source.
