'Black Panther' Director Announced? Ryan Coogler Named As Details Get Released!
"Creed" director, Ryan Coogler, is in negotiations to direct Marvel's "Black Panther," featuring the first black superhero, according to MTV.
Earlier in the fall, the studio and Coogler have met but talks cooled. With the success of the "Rocky" sequel, negotiations are back on.
The director's latest film "Creed," debuted big with earnings of $29.6 million and making it a breakout hit this fall. Michael B. Jordan stars in the film and portrayed the role of "Apollo Creed's" son, "Adonis."
"The Black Panther" is created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, which first appeared in the "Fantastic Four" pages. Chadwick Boseman will play the hero, and will be the head of a fictional African nation called Wakanda, playing the role of "T'Challa."
The character portrayed by Boseman, will make its first screen appearance in 2016's "Captain America: Civil War."
In addition to Coogler, Marvel has looked at Ava Duvernay and F. Gary Gray as possible directors of the film, showing the studio's commitment to finding a black director, reported GQ.
The acclaimed "Rocky" sequel dropped 48% for a $15.54 million second weekend for a rousing new $65.14 million domestic cume, as seen in Forbes' box office report.
In 2013, Ryan Coogler made a name for himself when he directed Jordan in the film "Fruitvale Station."
The film launched Jordan's career and "Fruitvale" won the Audience Award for U.S. dramatic film at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and the Grand Jury Prize.
Jordan played the role of "Oscar Grant," a Bay Area resident who was fatally shot by a BART police officer.
Coogler is now one of Hollywood's hottest young directors after showing much promise with "Fruitvale" and pulled of "Creed." The "Rocky" spinoff faced low expectations but the director's hard work paid off, revealed The Hollywood Reporter.

"Black Panther" is slated to arrive in 2018.
