14 Dead, 17 Wounded In San Bernardino Shooting; Two Alleged Suspects Killed In A Shootout With Police
14 people were killed and 17 others were left wounded after a heavily armed man and woman attacked the city Wednesday. Associated Press reported Dec. 3 that the two alleged suspects began a mass shooting on a holiday banquet at the Inland Regional Center around 11:00 a.m.
Chief Jarrod Burguan of the San Bernardino Police Department revealed the alleged suspercts, who were killed during a shootout with the police authorities, were identified as Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik.
Burguan added it is still uncertain whether the third person taken into their custody was involved in the San Bernardino shooting, as reported by The New York Times Dec. 2.
"We are reasonably confident that we have two shooters and we have two dead suspects," he said.
He continued, "There had to be some degree of planning that went into this. I don't think they just ran home and put on these tactical clothes."
Burguan also said they have yet to confirm the motive behind the mass shooting.
"We have not ruled out terrorism,'' he added.
Meanwhile, the brother-in-law of Farook said he is shocked after learning about the incident.
"I have no idea why he would he do something like this," Farhan Khan said, as noted by CNN. "I have absolutely no idea. i am in shock myself."
On the other hand, survivors of the attack said they hid in offices, bathrooms and closets as they fear of being the next target of the two suspects. Some of them managed to text their loved ones to share about the incident.
"She heard the shots and crying," Marcos Aguilera said, whose wife was among the survivors of the mass shooting. "Everyone was confused.
He went on, "When she exited the building, she said there were multiple bodies on the floor."
FBI assistant director David Bowdich said they are not eliminating the possibility that the shooting was an act of terrorism.
"We will go where the evidence takes us," he said. "We are definitely making some movements that it is a possibility."
