Kylie Jenner Wheelchair Magazine Photo Shoot Angers Public; Opinions Shared Via Twitter!
Kylie Jenner's wheelchair photoshoot for Interview Magazine has been an issue for hate from the people on the internet.
Interview Magazine explained that, "At Interview, we are proud of our tradition of working with great artists and empowering them to realize their distinct and often bold visions," according to E! News.
The Kylie Jenner cover was done by New York based photographer Steven Klein in reference to British artist Allen Jones, and as a tradition, "placing Kylie in a variety of positions of power and control and exploring her image as an object of vast media scrutiny," Interview Magazine's statement continued.
Director of Disability for Models of Diversity Chelsey Jay said that her organization is "completely against the images of an able Kylie Jenner using a wheelchair," according to Fox News. Jay said that it's inappropriate to call it artistic to have a celebrity pose as a disabled person for editorial pages.
"However in reality, the fashion industry shuns actual models who in real life, depend on these mobility aids, yet are excluded for this exact reason, " Jay added. Clinical psychologist and wheelchair-dependant model Dr. Danielle Sheypuk agreed to Jay's statement.
The photo of Kylie Jenner was published on Tuesday making an issue from Twitter users who are wheelchair users in real life and made it as their medium to share their experiences of using it. Some reported reactions were from people who were extremely discriminated because of their disability, according to BBC News.
The highly retweeted post from Ophelia Brown of an image of herself side by side in comparison to Kylie Jenner's photo on a wheelchair with a caption saying, "@KylieJenner wow being in a wheelchair is so fun and fashionable! #Ableism is the ultimate fashion statement!" according to TV Guide.
Ophelia wanted to show people that using a wheelchair isn't glamorous, fun or even fashionable to look at. The 17-year old girl from Ontario, Canada shared that using a wheelchair has been a part of her life and thinks that Kylie Jenner doesn't understand its original purpose, which seemed to use it as a prop to look cool, according to BBC News.
"I felt overwhelmed with annoyance and jealousy that she could just get in and out of a wheelchair," she added.
Despite receiving hate responses from other users, she didn't regret sharing her insight for the issue and still aims to spread the message.
