Just three days after BTS's V returned from military service, his 2018 R&B masterpiece "Singularity" quietly crossed a major threshold in the United States.

The track has now sold over 1 million units in the US, qualifying it for RIAA Platinum status-a fitting welcome-home gift for Kim Taehyung, who completed his 18-month mandatory service on June 10.

When "Singularity" dropped in May 2018 as the intro to "Love Yourself: Tear," it immediately set BTS apart from typical K-pop releases. The neo-soul influenced track let V's baritone voice take center stage, exploring darker themes of identity and loss that resonated far beyond the group's usual audience.

Music critics took notice. The Los Angeles Times called it BTS's "most arresting song" of 2018, while British magazine CLASH highlighted V's "dark, sophisticated timbre" when including it among the group's best work.

The sales milestone, announced June 13, comes as V transitions back to civilian life after serving in South Korea's Special Duty Team. Fans have been celebrating both his return and the song's success across social media.

"No one pulls R&B in Kpop industry like him oh DIVA," one fan posted, capturing the sentiment many feel about V's unique musical contributions.

While the song has hit the million-unit mark needed for Platinum certification, the formal RIAA recognition requires an application from the record label-a process that could happen in the coming months.

For V, whose deep voice has always stood out in BTS's catalog, "Singularity" reaching this milestone proves his solo artistry has staying power that extends well beyond his military absence.
