Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Confirmed with Snapdragon 8 Elite Through FCC Filing
Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 has cleared a major hurdle ahead of its expected July launch, with FCC certification confirming the device will pack Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.
The regulatory filing lists Samsung model SM-F966B with the SM8750 chipset, which is the model number for the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Early Geekbench tests show the chip will run at 4.47 GHz in Samsung's "for Galaxy" configuration, matching the performance found in the Galaxy S25 series.
The biggest change appears to be the camera system. Multiple sources confirm the Z Fold 7 will finally get a 200MP main camera, a huge jump from the 50MP sensor Samsung has used for the past three generations. The rest of the setup includes a 12MP ultra-wide, 10MP 3x telephoto, 10MP external selfie camera, and an improved 4MP under-display camera.
The Z Fold 7 will feature an 8.2-inch internal display and 6.5-inch external screen, up from 7.6 inches and 6.3 inches respectively on the current model. Samsung has also managed to slim it down to just 4.5mm thick when unfolded and around 9.5mm when folded, making it significantly thinner than the 12.1mm Z Fold 6.
The device will launch with Android 16 and Samsung's One UI 8, making it one of the first phones to ship with Google's latest mobile OS. RAM appears to stick at 12GB, though storage options will include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB variants.
Samsung is expected to hold its Galaxy Unpacked event in early July in New York, with July 10 being the most frequently mentioned date. The FCC certification suggests Samsung is on track for this summer launch window.
Battery capacity remains at 4,400mAh with 25W charging - areas where Samsung hasn't made improvements. Still, the combination of a drastically thinner design, much better camera, and larger screens should make the Z Fold 7 Samsung's most significant foldable upgrade in years.
